CrossRoads Farm

Town offices

04 May, 2005 - 7:59 am

When I first started volunteering at the library I had two motives. This first reason, of course, was that Millie obviously needed help. The second reason was that the Town Clerk’s office, which is located in the adjoining room, is also open on Fridays. It was an excellent way to keep my ear to the ground. I hoped to hear about houses that were going up for sale. What I did hear about may have been better.

About two months ago I was sitting on the floor in the children’s area of the library organizing books. Anne, the Town Clerk, stepped through the door and said, “Hey, kc, do you want a job with the Town?”

So now I’m working for Our Town. My hours are almost infinitely flexible and I make a decent hourly wage, considering we live in rural Vermont. And I am still volunteering at the library on Fridays.

Other than that things are pretty quiet out here at the farm. The weather is 10 degrees below average for this time of year and it’s been kind of gloomy for the last three or four days. Each day begins with cold sun and switches to damp clouds with little spates of rain.

I have one more English class to go to. Thursday morning. We are having a party. How. Remarkably. Exciting.
I’m sorry I thought this was college.
I considered skipping the party but I do want the Prof to take it personally. English is so subjective the last thing I need that wingnut to do is take his feelings out on my research paper. I won’t be taking another class with him any time soon.
