Heavenly

26 September, 2005 - 10:14 am

On a Monday morning my kitchen looks like.....Well, as though the Patriots play there on Sunday afternoons. I'm talking major disaster area. But it was worth it. Totally. Becuase when I get to Heaven - it's going to look like yesterday. Only G will be there too.

Yesterday was the first day this year that really felt like fall. Our trees still haven't changed but there was that nip in the air that makes you want to start the woodstove.

I spent the day unpacking my fall dishes, starting a very cool puzzle with the chickies and preparing the Football Feast.

Ah the football Feast. Food is as vitally important to the game watching process as is the beer or my Magic Football Jersey - particularly when playing the Pittsburgh Steelers. Since we had a good autumn day we decided on soup and cheese dreams.... Deluxe.

Have you ever had a cheese "dream"? This is a piece of bread with two or three slices of bacon on it. You cover the bacon with a slice of Kraft American Cheesefood and stick it under the broiler...

Ok for many of us that sounds more like a cheese nightmare.

But picture this. I started the homemade Italian bread on Saturday night. I made for real French Onion Soup from my Julia Child cookbook; and Welsh Rarebit just before game time. Rarebit is a delightful cheese sauce made with cheddar, egg and beer to be used as a fondue or as a sauce. At halftime we melted cheese on our soup and assembled the cheese dreams. We were ready just in time for the second half. D was there to enjoy the game with me and the girls were excited and cheering right along with us.

And what a game. What a nerve-racking adventure of turnovers and injuries and wild plays and down-to-the-wire-money-in-the-bank field goals. We came out on top though. The Kid was 12 for 12 in the fourth quarter and we even got to see Ben Roethisburger punch himself in the nuts. (trust us - watch the replay carefully) And when Brady and Richard Seymour finally left the field last night - the last two Patriots two walk off - The Kid said this:
"I'm sure the Steeler fans hate us here. They hate when we are running out. It's kinda fun. What more could you ask. There was 1:21 left. We've seen that before. I looked up and saw a minute and 21 seconds left and said, 'What more could you want?' It's a tough environment and you want to make the fans go crazy. We've got a golden kicker."

All in all a heavenly day.
