20 July, 2005 - 8:12 am We’ve been dealing with a major heat wave up here in Central Vermont. It’s been in the upper 80’s low 90’s with unbelievable humidity. I’m not one to complain about the weather here in the Green Mountain State. I’ve wanted to live here all my life and now I do – so enough said. But a couple days ago I said to D that I’d like just one day to make Homemade Macaroni and Cheese or Beef Stew with Guinness. Yesterday I wanted to bake but there was no way I was turning on the oven; and when I sat down to read my book the pages became damp by the time I was ready to turn them. Even the chickens are feeling the stress. They stopped laying eggs – we think it’s from the heat. Last night D and I ate our supper on the porch. Pizza I picked up in town. Suddenly it started raining. Big fat drops in a pounding torrent. The sun, peeking through breaks in the clouds, turned all that water into liquid light. It was amazing. And we could only hope that the Weather Minion was right - and that little front that came through would relieve the humidity, if not the heat. This morning the haze is lessened, it’s about 70 degrees. I made pancakes for breakfast. With eggs I stole from the chickens just this morning, and with blackberries picked yesterday on the side. I really don’t care what the weather is – I live in Vermont. |
