20 December, 2004 - 8:42 am It was a good, but extremely busy weekend. We never even turned the computer on this Saturday. The Pepperkokker dough sits in my office, staying chilled and ready to roll out. I made 5 dozen macaroons, the stained glass cookies and then I had a crazy idea regarding my grandmother’s Christmas tree cookie recipe. Rather than rolling them out, I figured I’d put them through the cookie press. I was going to make trees and solstice suns. Decorated with colored sugar. Cause I’m so brilliant. Uh huh. First I found there was no colored sugar in the house. So I took about a tablespoon and added a few drops of food coloring. I stirred and stirred to get the lumps out and added a little more sugar to get the color I wanted and presto - colored sugar. The problem turned out to be the consistency of the dough. I couldn’t get it to separate from the press neatly. I managed about a dozen trees by carefully lifting them off the press, but it would’ve taken me all day so I resorted to bar. The cookie press has a disc that will make a long bar and then I cut it into short lengths and put colored sugar on those. I must admit I was more upset about the cookie failure than I really care to admit. I don’t really know why. It isn’t a big deal. The cookie press comes with a recipe that it amazingly similar in content to the recipe I used, the proportions are just slightly different to make the dough the right consistency. I’ll just have to make cookie spirals for Imbolc. Today it is cold. The thermometer hovers at zero but the wind is whipping down the valley. I decided to keep the kids in the house a few extra minutes and then send them out the front door when I could see the bus coming up the road. They were chomping at the bit though so I let them go a bit sooner than I intended. It’s probably a good thing; the front door was frozen shut. I won’t be here at the keyboard much longer. It’s cold in here and I have too much to do. I’m supposed to be studying for my Psychology final. It’s tonight. At 6:30. So I’ll have to go out in this wintry hell, in the dark no less. Oh well, It’s no big deal really. Hardly even a final exam when you get down to it. He said the focus will be on the stuff we did since the last exam. Anxiety, Mood Disorders and the Psychosis. I learned the basic symptoms of schizophrenia when I was in high school. So those I have down pat. I just checked my current weather. It’s going to be this cold all day. The wind chill outside right now is –21. Yikes. But it’s supposed to ,em>rain on Thursday. Go figure. |
